Chris Smith enters his second year with the Adelphi University men's soccer team and first as associate head coach, after joining the club as the team's top assistant coach in 2016.
Prior to Adelphi, Smith spent six years at the helm at Mercy College. His highlights included two straight ECC Championship appearances as well as reaching 18th in the NSCAA Poll during the 2013 season. During the 2013 campaign, the Mavericks posted an 11-4-4 mark that included victories at Southern Connecticut and NYIT in addition to a tie at top-ranked LIU Post. In his last season of 2015, he successfully recruited four new players that earned All-Conference honors.
Prior to Mercy, Smith was Head Coach at NCAA Division I Saint Peter's University, where he posted a MAAC record of 15-8-4, which included two post season berths in 2004 and 2006 while also coaching two Offensive Player of the Year recipients. From 2001 to 2003, he was Head Coach at Manhattanville College, earning Skyline Coach of the Year in 2001. In total as a head coach, Smith has posted a record of 100-98-27.
Smith's coaching career began at the College of New Jersey as an assistant coach in 1996, helping the program to a National Championship followed by national runner-up in 1997. As an assistant in 2000 at NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State, he helped the Owls reach a high of fifth in the national rankings.
As a player, Smith played at Southern Connecticut from 1991 to 1994 where the Owls went to three consecutive Final Fours, winning the National Championship in 1992.
