York College has announced the hiring of Al Meneses as the new Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer team.
“I am very happy to welcome Coach Meneses and his family to York College," said York College Director of Athletics & Recreation, Deneé Barracato. "He clearly has an outstanding coaching background, and I'm confident he has what it takes to lead our men's soccer program to the next level.”

He has deep rooted soccer relationships that will help build our program towards the top ranks of our conference. Meneses brings over 25 years of soccer coaching experience at all levels, including semi-professional, amateur, NCAA, NJCAA, ODP, premier, travel and youth programs.
Most recently he has served as the Director of Training and Player Development for the Sound Soccer Academy on Long Island, NY since 1993. In this role, he develops and implements all curriculums for camps, clinics, team and personal training. Through Sound Soccer Academy, he has also coached, trained and managed travel and premier teams ranging from ages 9-23 for many soccer clubs throughout Long Island and New York. In addition, he is in charge of day-to-day business activities and operating expenses.
Meneses has also served as a coach for the Port Jefferson Soccer Club open and reserves men’s team and the Long Island Rough Riders since 2010. For the Port Jefferson Soccer Club, Meneses has worked with recent NCAA Division I, II and III graduates, as well as other amateur players looking for a professional contract and has helped to develop the men’s program into one of the most competitive in the state. As part of the Rough Riders, he has trained and coached Super- Y League teams ranging from ages 12-18 and played an integral coaching role in the USL Super-Y National Championship won by the GU14 team in 2015. He was also the Head Coach of the former Rough Riders BU18 College Showcase team.
Coach Meneses was selected as one of the best USL North American Super Y League coaches in the Region in 2015 and was given the opportunity to become a Regional and National scout. He is also a staff coach for the Long Island Professional Soccer (LIPS) organization and has been a NY Red Bulls certified trainer.
His last previous collegiate coaching experience was as the Assistant Coach at Suffolk Community College for three years. There, he assisted in guiding the women’s team into becoming a nationally ranked program. He also served as the Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach at St. John’s University for two years, where he played an integral role in developing the program into a competitive NCAA Division I team.
Meneses received his Bachelors of Science in Aerospace Engineering from NYU-Polytechnic University and also has a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Science from St. John’s University. He also has licensing and education from the NSCAA and the US Soccer Federation. As an athlete, he played for the NCAA Division I St. John’s University team and had a brief professional playing career with the LI Rough Riders in the USISL and Glen Cove Xara in the NEPSL.
Coach Meneses currently resides in Miller Place, NY with his wife Karen and his two children Daniel and Nicole.
